The Heart Behind the Herd

On our farm, we raise a herd of over 300 meat goats. With a herd this size, there’s always something happening—especially during kidding season. Sometimes, that means stepping in to give a little one the best possible start in life, like our most recent bottle baby, a tiny triplet rejected by his mom.

Triplets are a blessing, but they can also be a challenge. In this case, the mother simply couldn’t care for all three. Rather than let this little one, named Cosmo by our daughter, fall behind, we brought him into the house, warmed him up, and began bottle feeding him around the clock. That meant early mornings, late nights, and a lot of patience—but it’s what needed to be done.

We are happy to report he has since graduated to an outside pen where he gets to visit with other goat kids, mamas, and the outdoor barn cats!

As farmers, we care deeply for the animals we raise. Their well-being isn’t just important, it’s our top priority. From making sure they have clean water and proper nutrition to checking for signs of illness or injury, we are constantly monitoring their health. When a goat kid needs extra care, we don’t hesitate to provide it, even if that means bottle feeding every 4-6 hours for weeks.

The same care goes into the land and plants we grow, too. Healthy animals depend on healthy pastures, and we work hard to maintain that balance.

Raising meat goats is not just a business, it’s a commitment to stewardship. We believe every animal matters. And sometimes, that means bottle-feeding a little one until they’re strong enough to rejoin the herd. It’s hard work, but it’s also the heart of what we do.
